Sophie Monnier

Lightkeeper - Tourism Intelligence

I am a curious person. I like to inform myself, read, and learn. For example, I need to read the newspaper every day, to know, understand and compare my opinion with others. That's certainly why I like to surround myself with people. I also consider myself a foodie. When I travel, I like to discover new dishes, eat local food. It guides my travels. Some people book a hotel first, but for me it's the restaurants.

In my work, I favor a global, even macro approach. I need to understand a project as a whole. As in my personal life, I'm a team player, I learn from others, I listen and I improve. In my role as a Girl Scout, I brought quantitative expertise. I often find myself doing analysis in sometimes unusual contexts: while cross-country skiing, cycling or even in a restaurant. I examine the people, the environment, and draw a statistical portrait of an aspect that has caught my attention. I put this skill to use in the service of tourism intelligence at TouriScope. I love to write, but the numbers speak to me.

I studied economics (I have a master's degree) and then worked in the financial and banking sector. It was a great school, but a bit too conservative for me. I went back to school and took courses in tourism. My in-depth knowledge of the Quebec territory allows me to contextualize places and people. I have a wealth of knowledge in historical and geographical understanding of many areas, especially Quebec.

Thanks to cycling, I discover the landscape, I pedal it, I get to know its little corners and details that make the reflection in the framework of our projects closer to reality. When I collaborate on mandates related to history and genealogy, I am over the moon. I could talk about it for a long time. Do you have some time?
