Joining forces to promote Acadian identity

West Pubnico, N.S.

CONTEXTE

The Museum of Acadians of the Pubnicos and the Village Historique Acadien de la Nouvelle-Écosse are two flagship tourist attractions that have attracted visitors from within and outside the province for many years.

While the two entities are very close in their vision, mission and common desire to promote local history and Acadian culture, a merger is envisaged in order to pool the strengths of each. Both organizations have commissioned Touriscope to help them assess various possible merger scenarios.

APPROCHE

To carry out the diagnosis, Touriscope proposed a two-part approach:

- Interviews with stakeholders involved in the project

- A co-creation workshop led with Design Thinking techniques that made it possible to collectively choose the governance and management models and the common vision for this new project.

The scenario selected was accompanied by recommendations and an implementation plan in order to ensure the success of the merger.

RESULTS

The mandate led to the drafting of an action plan for the implementation of the collectively chosen merger scenario. The meeting of the main stakeholders made it possible to identify a vision and common goals that unite the two organizations. Ultimately, the merger of the two organizations should make it possible to:

- Promote the particularities of local Acadian culture;

- Create a structured network of Acadian offerings with complementary experiences;

- Attracting more visitors to the region;

- Integrate a library into the current offer;

- Mutualize human and financial resources between the two organizations;
